Understanding Shipping Costs
Dimensional Weight
Dimensional weight reflects the amount of space a package occupies relative to its actual weight. Each shipment is charged based on the greater of the dimensional weight or the actual weight.
Fuel Costs
Fuel price fluctuations impact transportation costs across the industry. To address this, a variable fuel surcharge may apply. This surcharge adjusts based on fuel price changes and can rise, fall, or be removed accordingly.
The fuel surcharge applies to transportation charges for all services and the following surcharges, where applicable:
- Remote Area Service
- Saturday Delivery
- Non-Standard Pickup
- Over-Handled Piece
- Over-Weight Piece
- Over-Sized Piece
- Emergency Situations
FAQs: Shipping and Billing
Q1: Why are my rates higher than expected?
Several factors can contribute to higher shipping rates, such as package size, weight, destination, and selected service. Below are a few considerations when evaluating your shipping costs.
If you need assistance, please send a request via the Billing Questions Form, including your order and tracking numbers.
Things to Check:
- Is the package size correctly listed in Packiyo?
- Are you shipping more items per order than usual, increasing package weight?
- Are you using boxes larger than 12 inches on one side, causing dimensional weight charges?
Q2: How can I lower my shipping costs?
We’d be happy to review your shipping strategy. Please submit a request through the General Inquiry Form, mentioning a shipping review. Your Account Manager will collaborate with your Warehouse Lead and Billing Specialist to identify potential cost-saving measures.
Suggestions for Cost Reduction:
- Use lighter packing materials and smaller boxes.
- Optimize package sizes to avoid unnecessary dimensional weight charges.
- Consider switching carrier services for specific locations (if feasible).
- Review peak season charges, which may include carrier surcharges.
- Check for high rates of Returned-to-Sender packages.
Q3: Why can’t I use FedEx or UPS for P.O. boxes?
FedEx and UPS cannot deliver to P.O. boxes. These carriers require a street address for delivery, even if a P.O. box is included. However, services using the U.S. Postal Service® for final delivery can accommodate such addresses.
Shipments sent through FedEx or UPS to P.O. boxes will be returned to the sender. We apologize for the inconvenience.
